MAX train collides with car in Hillsboro



HILLSBORO, Ore. -- A MAX train collided with a car in Hillsboro Saturday night, sending the driver of the car to the hospital and cutting off MAX service for a time.


The crash happened just before 7:30 p.m., near the intersection of SE 10th and Washington. The last four MAX stops were served by buses during the crash investigation.


The driver was flown in a LifeFlight helicopter to an area hospital but further details about their injuries were not released. One person on the train suffered a minor injury.


The MAX train was not seriously damaged, but the car was smashed up.

A man was seriously injured and train service was disrupted for five hours Saturday after a car collided with the Westbound MAX train at Washington Street and 10th Avenue in Hillsboro.

As of press time Monday, Hillsboro police and the Washington County Crash Analysis Reconstruction Team were unable to positively identify the driver, who was in serious condition at Oregon Health Science University Sunday, said Hillsboro Police Department Lt. Mike Rouches.

No one was home at an address found inside a wallet the man was carrying.


"We found a wallet, but we can't verify that was him," Rouches said.

According to reports, police were called to the scene at 7:16 p.m.

Preliminary investigation showed that the northbound 1996 Mercedes Benz sedan may have failed to stop for a red light, and was struck by the train.

TriMet police are leading the ongoing investigation. No citations issued at this time.

TriMet sent buses to transport MAX riders between the 12th Avenue and Hatfield Station platforms during the disruption.
